Why Join the U3A?

Are you retired? Are you about to retire and wondering how to fill the long days head? Would you like to have fun, do things you never had time to do when working, meet interesting people, make friends do a hobby you never found time for or learn something new?  Well look no further!

The Sherwood U3A (University of the Third Age) is a self-help group aimed at providing life-long opportunities for older people who are no longer in full-time employment. Sherwood U3A meets once a month for a general meeting with topic or speaker, but the real strength of the organisation lies in the interest groups which are small, run by members and allow people with a common interest to meet together with the aim of learning from each other.   Interest groups are wide and varied and can include such topics as Art, Book Group, Bridge, Classical Music, Craft, Current Affairs, Family History, Garden Visits, Holidays & Outings, Lunch Group, Scrabble, Singing for Pleasure, Tai Chi, Theatre Visits, Walking, Wine Appreciation and many others.  Future groups may include any topic that a few members wish to pursue.

Interest groups are formed by a small number of people who wish to pursue the same subject.  They can meet at people`s homes or an a venue where rent is normally charged.  Each interest group has a group leader who arranges room hire and the topic for each meeting. Interest groups as a general rule meet once a month on a given day of the week.

All U3As are fully autonomous with members organising their own activities and making their own decisions through elected committees.  U3As are all self financing on a non-profit making basis, with no political or religious influences or allegiances, and development is according to the wishes, needs and resources of their local areas.  No qualifications are necessary to join - and none are given
